The fraud came to light when police caught one Manivannan, 58 from Kannampalayam near Sulur at a check post in Virudhunagar. “Manivannan was heading to Tirunelveli in a car, when police intercepted him at Virudhunagar and found the e-pass stuck on his vehicle to be a fake one. While he was travelling on some business purpose, the fake pass had wrongly mentioned some other emergency reason,” police said.

As his e-pass applied online was rejected several times, Manivannan approached the photocopier shop in his neighbourhood and got a fake pass.

On receiving information about the fraud, authorities informed Sulur tahsildar Meena Kumari to investigate it. She visited the shop and found that its owner Balu, 45 had been into the practice of issuing fake e-pass to the public. Based on her complaint, Sulur police have registered a case and are on the lookout for the absconding culprit.
