Panic after sudden rise in virus cases in Central dists

Till then, there were a fewer cases recorded in the region and the exodus from the capital city to other districts had helped the COVID-19 curve to climb high. For instance, as many as 64 cases were recorded on a single day in the Central region on Wednesday and on Thursday it was 61. The case was different during May which had hardly recorded double digit in all the eight districts in the Central region.

According to data, Ariyalur district has so far had a whopping 400 cases among them 379 were discharged and there are 21 cases, including three on Thursday had kept the infection rate higher. Most of the cases from Ariyalur had Chennai travel history.

Similarly, Thanjavur had the maximum of 21 cases on a single day on Thursday which was 12 on Wednesday while Tiruchy trailed back with 14 new cases on Thursday against eight on Wednesday. While Nagapattinam and Tiruvarur had nine and eight cases respectively and both the cases had Chennai connect, but on Wednesday, both the district had 13 and 15 cases respectively.

Meanwhile, Pudukkottai district recorded six cases on Thursday while it was eight on Wednesday and all the cases had travel history to Chennai. Officials from the region fear that the number of cases could surge in another couple of days as many people from Chennai started to move out from Thursday morning. At the same time, all the districts have readied centres to take care of any number of cases.

Dindigul man dies in Tiruchy GH; body buried
A 60-year-old man under treatment for COVID-19 in Tiruchy died on Thursday morning and his body was buried by officials.

The man, who had symptoms of COVID-19 was admitted in Tiruchy GH on June 15 and his blood samples tested positive. Soon, he was shifted to the special ward and was kept under ventilation. However, he breathed his last at 2.30 am on Thursday. Subsequently, the information was passed onto the family members who accepted to the suggestion of the officials in Tiruchy for his last rites there itself. Based on the willingness, the officials arranged for the burial at Palakkarai Masjid burial ground following protocol and the family members were not allowed close to the body.

53-yr-old man succumbs in Puducherry
Meanwhile, a 52-year-old man died of coronavirus while 27 new cases were recorded in Puducherry on Thursday, taking the toll to six and aggregate to 271 in the Union Territory. Speaking to reporters here, Health Minister Malladi Krishna Rao said the man, who was admitted to Indira Gandhi Government Hospital here succumbed to the infection early on Thursday.
