100 sovereigns, Rs 35 lakh stolen from priest's house

In a daring daylight robbery, a five-member gang barged into the house of a temple priest in Dindigul and looted 100 sovereign jewels and Rs 35 lakh in cash after tying the inmates of the house on Friday afternoon. Police secured the gang later in Pudukkottai.

Police inquiring with family members of Durai Adithan, the priest, whose house was burgled

Around 1 pm, a gang of five persons, who came in a car, trespassed into the house of Durai Adithan (65) of Sukkampatti village in Dindigul who has been administering a Shiva temple in the locality. The gang which entered into the house, threatened Durai Adithan at knife point and tied his wife Revathi, son Manoj, daughter Nithya and son-in-law Ramesh and got the keys from him. They looted 100 sovereign jewels and Rs 35 lakh in cash and escaped.

After the gang fled, Durai Adithan and the family members raised an alarm and neighbours untied them.

Subsequently, Durai Adithan complained to the Vedasanthur police. Dindigul SP Sakthivel went to the spot and conducted inquiry. Later, finger print experts and sniffer dog squad also conducted investigations.

The SP probed the family members of Durai Adithan and formed three special teams to nab the culprits. Meanwhile, police said that the fleeing gang members were secured at Kumarapatty in Pudukkottai district on Friday evening.

It is said, apart from administering the temple, Durai Adithan also has been functioning as the priest and also he has been practicing astrology and many businessmen are his clients.
