The 90 days of lockdown were not wasted, but were essential to bring the infection under control and maintain a low mortality rate in the State. When even developed nations like America, Britain, Italy and Spain are struggling, Tamil Nadu managed to keep COVID-19 under control due to stringent measures of the government,” he said, while addressing after a review meet on the COVID-19 situation in Coimbatore.
Slamming Stalin for issuing false statements with political motives over COVID-19 issue, the Chief Minister said that he is the only political party leader to do politics even during such troubled times.
“The government has been taking concrete steps to control the infection. Instead of lending his support, the Opposition leader has made it a habit to make false propaganda through the media almost on a daily basis to show his presence to the public. In no other State, the Opposition leader acts so irresponsibly and his only intention is to capture power,” the CM said.
The Chief Minister said that he would be visiting other districts to review the progress of development works and hold review meets on the COVID-19 situation.
Attacking the DMK for taking up distribution of relief aid without heeding to the government advice to co-ordinate with the official machinery, he said that not following the guidelines issued by government led to spread of COVID-19.
“More than 500 persons were infected by COVID-19 through those involved in relief distribution works. If they had followed the guidelines, we wouldn’t have lost an MLA,” Palaniswami said.
Further, the CM also reiterated that there was no community spread of COVID-19 in Tamil Nadu.
