Chennai reports 2000 plus Covid-19 cases for third consecutive day, 12 lakh samples tested statewide

According to the state health ministry’s bulletin, there were 3,882 Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours and 63 patients succumbed to the disease during that time.

The cumulative tally stood at 94,049 and the active cases at 39,856, the state health bulletin said.

Chennai remained at the top among the 37 districts, as it recorded 2,182 of the fresh cases, taking its total to 60,523, followed by Chengalpattu (5,648), Tiruvallur (3,978), Madurai (2,858) and Kancheepuram (2,067).

With 63 more fatalities reported in the last 24 hours, the number of COVID-19 casualties rose to 1,264.

On the positive side, 2,852 Covid-19 patients were discharged from various hospitals, taking the total number of cured persons to 52,926.

So far, 12,02,204 samples (31,521 samples today) have been taken for testing. COVID-19 tests were being done in 48 government and 43 private labs all over the state, it said.

The number of infected children in the age group 0-12 went up to 4,617.
