Chennai

Tamil Nadu has reported 4,329 new cases of COVID 19 positive today, taking the total number of positive cases to 42,955, with Chennai recording 2,082 new cases.

Out of the 4,329 new cases reported in the last 24 hours, Chennai accounted for 2,082 and all the districts put together 2,247. In Madurai, the new infections tripled in the last 12 days while in Chennai it has doubled.

For more than three months, the capital city has been the hotspot. However, in the last 12 days, there has been a gradual increase in the number of cases in the districts. This comes after the large scale migration of people from the city.

Chennai’s neighbouring districts — Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram — have been reporting an increase in the numbers along with the city due to the spillover effect.
