Citing the case of Thoothukudi district, he said 1,096 patients were under treatment as on July 11. There was delay in delivery of basic needs such as food to all the patients in Thoothukudi Government Medical College Hospital, putting the patients into a hard spot, he alleged.

Though a list of empanelled private hospitals was prepared by the government for providing care, it was not known to people who seek treatment. Hence, he sought the State government to publicise the list of hospitals and also demanded the government to provide e-pass for those seeking treatment in other districts.

The consumer forum also urged the government to ensure that doctors kept their clinics open to render service to those seeking general medicine, diabetics, cardio respiratory care and maternity care, and not close them due to fear of COVID-19 infection.
