Tiruvarur farmers’ protest leads to opening of more DPCs for cotton
Farmers from Tiruvarur, who cultivated cotton, have been waiting for their turn to sell their crop in the lone DPC meant for it in the district.

On Monday and Tuesday, they staged a protest demanding to establish more number of DPCs to facilitate the procurement. Following the protests, on Tuesday evening, Tiruvarur Collector D Anand said that temporary DPCs are established at Moongilkudi, Kudavasal and Valaingaiman and the farmers from the region can approach these DPCs where auction would be held once in a week. The Collector also said, so far 3,225 MT of cotton was procured and 1,250 MT more would be procured in coming days. Farmers also alleged nexus between the DPC employees and a few agents who got priority in selling their crops while most of the farmers needed to wait for several days.
