Drone deployed to trace Aranthangi rape-accused escapee
In a turn of events in the gruesome sexual assault and murder case of a 7-year-old girl in Pudukkottai, the accused on Thursday escaped while being taken to the hospital to complete medical formalities.

The accused Raja who had been arrested under Pocso Act managed to give the police a slip despite being handcuffed.
He was being taken to Pudukkottai Government Hospital before being remanded into custody.
The 25-year-old accused who went by the name 'pookadai' Raja was a neighbour of the victim. He was arrested under suspicion and confessed to the crime after Police came by to question the disappearance of a girl in Yembal village near Aranthangi in Pudukkottai district.
According to reports, the girl’s mother filed a missing complaint with the police after which the search began. The girl's body was later found with multiple injuries.
The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has also initiated a probe in the case.
A six-member special team has been formed to trace the culprit and a drone has been deployed to aid in the operation. An intense search is being carried out in Thengaithinnipatti and 5 other villages in the vicinity.
