Hard work paid off, say toppers, 30K absentees get July 27 date
The fate of over 30,000 Class 12 students, who were absent for the last board exam on March 24, will be decided on July 27 as they would be given a chance to appear for the exam on that day.

he Directorate of Examinations, which declared Class 12 results on Thursday, has withheld the results of the absentees, who could not write Chemistry, Accountancy, and Geography exams on March 24 due to corona threat. Meanwhile, officials are tight-lipped on the exact number of students who would be appearing for exam on July 27.
Meanwhile, many students, who got good results despite a new syllabus, attributed it to hard work “though the new curriculum was tough in Science and Commerce stream”.
J Shandeep, a Class 12 student in a private school at Pammal, who scored 95 per cent aggregate (474 of 500) said the new Commerce syllabus was tough. “Teachers taught us concept learning instead of memorising the portions, which helped us score,” he said.
Shandeep, who secured centum in Commerce, said attending the last exam amid virus threat was a challenge. “I was scared, wanted to somehow rush back home.”
Several students from PAK Palanisamy HS government-aided school at Washermenpet have secured more than 550 marks out of 600. Admitting that the new syllabus was tough, J Vijayaraj, the school headmaster said a series of revision tests helped. One of the school’s students, A Balaji, who secured 566 out of 600, said it was a challenging task to cover all the portions. “From December, we were engaged in group studies in the school,” he said.
