Western dists put up an impressive show

Tirupur district emerged a topper for the second year in a row by securing 97.12 per cent, up from last year’s 95.37 per cent. Of the total 23,398 students, including 10,418 boys and 12,980 girls, who took the exams, 95.98 per cent of boys and 98.04 per cent of girls cleared the exam successfully.

District Collector K Vijayakarthikeyan lauded the teachers and education department officials, who strived hard to make it to the top rank for the second consecutive year. “Teachers gave special focus to schools with low pass per cent to improve their results. Special classes were conducted during mornings and evenings,” he said.

Tirupur district Chief Education Officer (CEO) Ramesh said 100 per cent of visually-challenged students, 90 per cent of hearing and speech impaired and 95.65 per cent of physically challenged students have cleared the examination. A total of 111 schools including government, aided, corporation and private schools have scored cent per cent results.

Significantly, Erode district has retained its second rank continuously for the third year by securing 96.99 per cent, up 1.76 per cent from last year’s 95.23 per cent. In 2014 and 2016, the district had emerged topper in the State but slipped in the subsequent years. With a pass percentage of 96.03, the Coimbatore district has improved to the third rank from its fourth slot last year in the statewide ranking. Like other districts, the pass percentage witnessed a marginal increase from last year’s 95.01 percentage.

The district has been showing consistent performance from tenth place in 2017 to 8th place in 2018 and 4th slot in 2019. Of the total 32,874 students who wrote the examination, 31,686 students have passed with girls faring better than boys.
