As part of the protest, the agitators led by the party’s district president Nandakumar chanted hymns of Lord Murugan. They also urged the government to declare ‘Thaipoosam’ festival as a public holiday. Meanwhile, members of TPDK were prevented from staging a sit-in protest in front of the Superintendent of Police office demanding the arrest of a Hindu outfit member for making a derogatory post in social media against social reformer Periyar. More than 50 people who marched towards the SP office were stopped by police. Following talks by senior police officials promising action, the protestors left the spot after handing over a petition.
