The CB CID team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar on Saturday conducted enquiries among several relatives of the victim at Peikulam, a locality near Sathankulam. The enquiry held at office premises of the Revenue Department lasted over two hours. Over the last two days, the CB CID team enquired mother and relatives of the victim in a house at KVK Nagar in Thoothukudi, sources said.

The 28-year old Mahendran succumbed to injuries in Thoothukudi Government Medical College Hospital on June 13 after he’s was admitted on June 11. His 65-year old aggrieved mother moved High Court Madurai seeking justice.

The mother, who sought action against then Inspector S. Srithar and Sub Inspector Raghu Ganesh, said Mahendran was illegally detained by Sathankulam police in connection with a murder of Jeyakumar of Peikulam on May 18.

Based on her claims through a petition, the High Court ordered the CB CID to probe into the custodial death, sources said.
