“Today is a memorable day in my life. I never expected the PM to appreciate me and speak to me over the phone. I am overjoyed and will never forget this moment during my lifetime. This motivates me to achieve more such feats,” she said, hours after the programme went on air. Kaniga aspires to become a doctor with a specialisation in neurology. Her sister Shivani too is a second year MBBS student in a private college in Tiruchy.

During the interaction, Modi heaped praises on Kaniga’s father for being a true inspiration and raising his daughters well. “When I hear of Namakkal, I think of the Anjaneyar Temple. Now I will also remember my interaction with you,” the PM said. During the telephonic conversation, Modi also asked Kaniga about the marks she had expected, to which she replied, “I worked hard from the beginning and expected 485 or 486 out of 500 and got 490. My favourite subject is Mathematics.” She had scored 475/500 in the Class 10 exams.

Kaniga’s father Natarajan said, “Never in my dreams had I thought that the PM would call up to congratulate my daughter. He not only made me and my family proud, but the entire Namakkal district.”
