State amends list of BCs, includes two communities
In a major relief to the members of the Ezhuva and Thiyya communities residing in different districts across the state, the state government has passed orders to the commissioner of revenue administration to instruct the district collectors to issue backward class caste certificates to the applicants spread across Tamil Nadu.

Earlier the community people, who were mostly located in Kanniyakumari and Tirunelveli districts, close to Kerala, got the certificates, but for those residing in other districts of TN it turned out to be a difficult task to avail the certificates.
The order issued by the principal secretary B Chandramohan, backward classes, most backward classes and minorities welfare department, on behalf of the state government read, “the government after careful examination and consideration has accepted the recommendation by the expert committee formed to address the long pending demand from the communities and issue certificates in all the districts as members of Ezhuva and Thiyya communities were found in many districts of Tamil Nadu.”
The order also noted that the community certificates be issued only to those who belonged to Tamil Nadu. The state had also brought in amendments to the list of backward classes and the changes will be included in the sub list under section 109 (A) comprising the list of backward classes, the order copy read.
The move will help the community people during this academic admission time and there were several representations from the Ezuhva and Thiyya communities mostly located close to the Kerala–TN borders, officials said. The community members were mostly into small cultivation, toddy tapping and have knowledge about native herbs and Ayurveda medicines. Since the formation of the state there is no adequate data on the community in TN.
