57k active cases in Tamil Nadu, 82 per cent new Covid cases outside Chennai

Tamil Nadu recorded 6,426 new COVID-19 positive cases, from testing 58,818 persons taking the tally of coronavirus infected to 2.34 lakh.
Of the 2,34,114 who tested positive for the virus in the state, 1,72,883 patients recovered as of today, according to data released by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Nearly 73% of the total coronavirus cases were cured since the outbreak.
The state also recorded 82 deaths on Wednesday with a total of 3,741 people succumbing to the virus.
Meanwhile, the number of daily new coronavirus cases outside Chennai continues to exceed those within the state capital.
While Chennai is witnessing a mild increase in the number of COVID-19 cases with the city reporting 1,117 cases (97,575 overall cases) on Wednesday, the neighbouring districts of Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur reported of 540, 373 and 382 new cases over the past 24 hours. The combined tally of these three districts has crossed 1,200 cases in a day.
At least 300 cases were reported in Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Virudhunagar while Madurai and Coimbatore reported more than 200 cases on Wednesday.
Tamil Nadu has tested 25,36,660 samples and 24,42,482 people so far, according to the media bulletin issued by the Directorate of Public Health.
The active cases in Chennai stands at 12,735 while 1,234 persons were discharged on Wednesday. 21 of the 82 deaths were reported in the state capital.
The number of active cases in the state stood at 57,490.
The number of infected children in the age group 0-12 years went up to 11,697.
