Orders invoking the NSA was issued by Coimbatore City Police Commissioner Sumit Sharan late on Tuesday. It may be recalled that tension prevailed in the Textile city after a statue of Periyar was desecrated by smearing it with saffron paint. Acting swiftly, police arrested Bharat Sena functionary Arun Krishnan, who had desecrated the statue in protest against Tamil YouTube channel Karuppar Kootam.
