A senior official from the directorate told DT Next that 1,21,008 students have registered through online admissions as on Tuesday. So far, 93,383 applicants have paid registration fees till that day, he said uploading original certificates and mark sheets would have to be done on July 31.
According to him, the number of applicants seeking engineering seats was expected to increase further in the coming days because the Centre was yet to announce the dates for conducting NEET and JEE.
“The number of online applications is expected to touch about 1.30 lakh,” said the official, adding DoTE has made arrangements to guide the students through Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) online portal.
“More than 50 facilitation centres will also be set up soon after announcing the rank list on August 28,” he said. Academicians and experts would be deployed at these centres to guide the applicants, the official said, adding that certificate verification would also be done there.
According to the official, counselling for general category students would be held from September 17 to October 6. For vocational course students, counselling would go on from September 10 to October 12.
In all, 1.47 lakh engineering seats are available at about 500 engineering colleges in State. From 2019, DoTE is conducting counselling for students after Anna University refused to do it following a row with the Higher Education Department on the re-shuffling of TNEA Committee.
