Class 11 results out in State, Kovai bags 1st place with 98.10 per cent

While the State-wide pass percentage in the Class 11 board exams this year was 96.04%, the results which were announced on Friday morning, showed Coimbatore bagging the first place in TN for the second time in a row with 98.10% pass rate. The overall pass percentage this year was slightly higher than last year’s 95%.

Of the total 8.15 lakh students who had appeared, the girls’ pass percentage was 97.49% and the boys’ was 94.38%. The pass percentage in Chennai was 97.29%, slightly higher than last year’s 96.86%.

The Directorate of School Education (DSE) announced that it would continue with the practice of not declaring students’ ranking at the State and district levels on the basis of aggregate of marks secured. According to the DSE data, students from Science stream performed well this year too with an over all pass percentage of 96.33 compared to other groups. Pass percentage in Physics was 96.68%, Chemistry(99.95%), Mathematics(98.56%), Biology (96.14%), Botany (97.64%), Zoology (94.53%), Commerce (94.44%), Accountancy (98.16%), Economics (96.38%), Language (97.87%) and English (97.82%).

Nearly 8.30 lakh students, including private candidates, registered for the exams held from March 4 to 26. Among them, 8,15,442 wrote the exams, of which 4,35,881 lakh were girls and 3,79,561 lakh boys.

However, following the total lockdown from March 23, the last exam, scheduled for March 26, was cancelled and students were awarded marks based on their quarterly and half-yearly exams for the final papers that they missed. The Directorate also said that 2,716 of the 7,249 schools registered 100% pass percentage. The date of submission of applications for re-totalling will be announced later.

Vellore records 94.70 % pass

Vellore district recorded a pass percentage of 94.70 % in the Plus One exams. While 17,389 of the 18,765 boys passed the exam recording a 92.66 pass percentage, girls performed better scoring 96.44% with 21,139 of the 21,198 girls passing, he said. Of the total 40, 683 students who appeared for the exams, 38,528 passed. This year’s pass percentage is 5.41 % higher than last year’s 89.29%. The pass percentage for government schools in Vellore district was 92.19% which was 7.58% more than last year’s 84.61%. In the matriculation stream, pass percentage was 98.80 while that for government-aided schools it was 95.23%. Of the 109 differently-abled students who appeared, 99 passed with a 90.82 pass percentage.
