Pondy CM for strict measures to contain COVID spread as public ignoring curbs
With Coronavirus spreading fast and the public not cooperating with the government in its fight against COVID-19, Chief Minister V Narayanasamy on Saturday said it will take some stringent measures in the meeting of the State Disaster management Authority to be held here on Wednesday.

In a video clip sent to the media here, the Chief Minister said inspite of repeated requests to the public not to take part in public functions, to wear masks and maintain social distancing, several complaints are there that several people gathered in Amman temples on (Aadi Friday).
People are yet to understand the seriousness of this virus, he said and cited several instances of spread of COVID through public gathering.In the last two months the virus is spreading fast in Puducherry and it is likely to go like this till the end of September, Narayanasasmy said, adding, if the people are not following the guidelines of the government, it will be forced to impose total lockdown here for some days.
5 more deaths reported UT, toll climbs to 80
The COVID-19 toll in Puducherry mounted to 80 with five more people, including two women, succumbing to the viral infection on Saturday.
Director of Health and Family Welfare S Mohan Kumar said all these patients had co-morbidities and were in the age group ranging between 57 and 78 years. The UT also recorded 268 new cases, highest so far, taking the tally to 5,087.
While 268 cases were reported in Puducherry, 38 were from Karaikal and 2 from Yanam region.
