The DMK president, who is also the Leader of Opposition in the Assembly asked the Centre to give up its egoistic attitude and end the stress and pressure on students and their parents by advising states to decide on cancellation of exams based on the prevailing situation there.

Citing the submission of UGC (University Grants Commission) before the Supreme Court that states were authorized to cancel exams, Stalin said that it was condemnable that the Central and state governments were not mindful of the future of final year students and pressure faced by their parents. “Coronavirus pandemic time was not the time for power struggle. It is extremely worrisome that the BJP led Centre, which claims to be revolutionizing education, has not realized that it was the time to guide the future of students without delay,” the DMK president said. The BJP-led NDA government at the Centre, which should have made decisions first in the interest of final year students, and the AIADMK which is in power at the State were remaining mute spectator, Stalin charged.

Claiming that there was a risk of placement orders secured by students through campus interviews being rendered meaningless, the the Leader of Opposition said the students aspiring to pursue higher education, appearing for competitive exams and jobs were struggling without being able to make attempts.
