Farmers demand CBI probe into PMKSNY scam

Farmers urged the Centre to order for an investigation by the CBI in a scam in PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PMKSNY) in the state, as the state government officials have been suspected to be a part of it. They also demanded a white paper on the issue and threatened protests over inaction if any.

According to the farmers here, even non-farmers were benefited by the PMKSNY and Rs 4,000 as a part of financial assistance of Rs 6,000 were credited in their accounts on August 10. The farmers claimed that similar irregularities took place in 14 districts. After the scam created a flutter, the online portal was blocked after which the Agriculture Minister R Doraikannu and the Agriculture Principal Secretary Gagandeep Singh Bedi, who scrutinised the beneficiaries list and instructed to remove the non-farmer beneficiaries.

Meanwhile, farmers led by the Cauvery Farmers Protection Association Secretary Swamimalai Sundara Vimalanathan sent a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in which they stated that the Union government should order for a departmental investigation and inquire the officials from agriculture and revenue departments and e-seva employees and the agents.
