After inspecting the COVID control measures taken by the Madurai district administration and the Health Department, Radhakrishnan said only 10 per cent of the COVID fatality in the State was purely caused by the virus. But comorbidity effects resulted in deaths and also increase the chances of fatality, he told reporters in Madurai on Sunday.

The deaths due to comorbidities were also considered COVID-19 deaths as per instructions of the ICMR, he added.

Even after recovery and discharge, patients were being tested within a span of a week. Therefore, there was no necessity for the State government to conceal deaths, he added.

He also added that test results were declared within 24 hours.

He complemented the service rendered by healthcare professionals, and also added that Siddha medicine assumed greater significance in COVID care treatment.

Earlier, Radhakrishnan inspected fever camps in parts of Kalavasal and Mudakkusalai in Madurai. He was accompanied by Madurai Collector TG Vinay and Corporation Commissioner S Visakan.
