In a first, over 1.6 lakh engineering aspirants in Tamil Nadu

For the second consecutive year, Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions 2019 (TNEA-2019) is being conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education (DOTE) as Anna University refused to conduct it after a row with the Higher Education Department over the reshuffling of the TNEA Committee.

A senior official from the DOTE told DT Next on Saturday that as on Friday night the number of applications stood at 1,56,141 and another 4,000 applications are expected to be received at the end of the last date of online registration.

Stating that online registration begins on July 17 and ends on August 16, he said about 2,000 applications were expected to be received on Saturday end and about 3,000 applications expected on the last date.

Pointing out that a total of 1,25,722 candidates have paid their registration fees so far, he said last year, the total number of online application from the students seeking engineering seats were 1.3 lakh.

The DOTE official claimed of the total number of applicants about 80 per cent students have uploaded their original certificate as on date.

He said that this year the number of candidates has increased and it would be further raised since the government had not announced the schedule of various competitive exams including NEET and JEE.

Stating that the rank list would be declared on September 7, he said the general counselling will start from September 17. He said the government has planned to establish more than 50 student facilitation centres, which will be equipped with experts, where candidates could clear all the doubts with regard to the engineering admissions.

The official said this year also a total of 1.47 lakh engineering seats are available in about 500 engineering colleges across the State.
