The decision to reduce the banking staff was taken by the State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC)- Tamil Nadu in its meeting held on Friday. “All bank branches/offices in the state shall function with 50 per cent staff on rotation basis functioning under normal working hours rendering usual services,” said SC Mohanlal, General Manager, IOB and Convenor SLBC-Tamil Nadu.

In the earlier circular given by SLBC, on July 31, it was said that banks can function with 100 percent staff but as social distancing could not be followed in the banks, All India Banking Staff Association had threatened to go on strike from April 20 with the demand to reduce the number of banking staff. The new order to reduce the banking staff to 50 percent will be in force till August 31.
