Penalise HM activists violating govt order: Plea

A software engineer has moved the Madras High Court seeking to direct the state to take appropriate action against Hindu Munnani, its men and cadre, by restraining them from celebrating Vinayaga Chathurthi by erecting idols in public places, conducting poojas through public gathering, holding any public procession for immersion of idols in sea/water bodies in violation of the prohibitory orders.

K Ilanchelian of Tiruvannamalai submitted in his public interest litigation that the Hindu Munnani president has claimed in a press release that his organisation will install 1.5 lakh Vinayaga idols across the state defying the prohibitory orders. Pointing out that installation of such statues in huge numbers will create law and order problems and would force majority of the police personnel to bandobust duty which would be a wastage of manpower, he said “if Hindu Munnani has any grievances on the prohibitory orders, it could have approached the High Court for appropriate remedy. Instead, the outfit has chosen to make a communally inflammable announcement with an intention to create a law and order trouble.”

He also noted that while the government has come up with the prohibitory order for the welfare of the public, Hindu Munnani threat of defying the ban demonstrates its irresponsible attitude.

Also, claiming that his detailed representation to the government to curtail the unlawful acts of the Hindu Munnai had failed to evoke any response he sought for a direction to the government to act on his representation.
