According to farmers, the Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation (TNCSC) had sent a circular on July 29 which directed all the district managers of TNCSC to instruct the farmers to stock their paddy at their houses and not to bring them directly to the DPCs from the field. At the same time, the TNCSC staff would visit the farmers and issue tokens to bring the paddy to the respective DPCs. “The process of taking the paddy directly to the DPCs is on for the past 45 years and this was introduced by the late CM MGR…It has been a boon for the farmers, but it is quite shocking to learn the present circular which is against the interest of the farmers,” said, Cauvery Farmers Protection Association Secretary Swamimalai Sundara Vimalnathan. Vimalnathan said, “No farmer has the adequate stocking facility at their houses. When they took them directly from the field to the DPCs, it was a great support to the farmers. But, the present decision would never help the farmers, but only support the officials and encourage corruption and so it should be withdrawn,” he said warning of protests if it is not met.
