Top state officials, who were present in the meeting, during their interaction seems to have indicated that Tirupattur district might be chosen as the location for the next medical college.
Tirupattur GH has created a record of sorts by performing around 500 deliveries every month during the pandemic. Because of this, locals started visiting the hospital, thanks to a top official who delivered her child at this facility. A woman doctor from a renowned family in Chittoor also came to this hospital for delivery. Work is also under way for the inauguration of a Rs 18 crore maternity and child health block.
Besides this, officials also placed a request for a SIPCOT complex with the Chief Minister. The request for a SIPCOT complex in the district evoked instant response from the CM, who immediately ordered to conduct a survey of the land for this project. Officials said that they had identified 1,250 acres for the proposed project near Natrampalli. The SIPCOT complex, when operational, would bring in a number of engineering industries as against the present monopoly of the leather firms. The new engineering units would generate additional jobs, said Collector MP Sivan Arul.
However, locals talking to DT Next said that a medical college would boost the image of the town. With Vellore and Ranipet having well-equipped hospitals in government and private sectors, Tirupattur with its taluk hospital needs to be upgraded into a district headquarters hospital, feel the residents. Now fingers are crossed as locals hope for the best.
