Usual fervour and Kozhukattai missing at Uchchi Pillayar temple
The rather grand celebration of Vinayaga Chathurthi was amiss across the central region while the usual 150 kg ‘Kozhukattai’ offered to the Uchchi Pillayar atop the Rockfort hillock too was missing this year owing to the lockdown norms.

For first time in the recent past, the Uchchi Pillayar temple prevented rush of devotees and the usual big ‘kozhukattai’ was replaced by a small kozhukattai. while the Manicka Vinayakar temple was decorated with fruits and the pujas were performed without the devotees. Meanwhile, a section of members from Hindu Munnani went on a procession at the Cauvery bridge and submerged the idols while police prevented mass gathering. The police said, around 60 medium sized idols were brought from the rural areas while around 30 idols were brought from the City and they were submerged in the river Cauvery one by one. Around 4000 police personnel were deputed on duty across the Central Zone while in Tiruchy City, more than 500 police personnel were deployed to avert any untoward incidents.
