Stalin also questioned the delay in promulgating an ordinance to provide 7.5 per cent quota within the existing reservation for government school students in medical admission.

Referring to the requests made by former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal for deferring NEET owing to the spread of COVID-19, Stalin said the intention of the AIADMK regime was evident from it not paying attention to the vital issue despite it opposing NEET in principle.

“I strongly urge the state government on behalf of Tamil Nadu people to immediately convene a special session of the Assembly, reject NEET and declare that medical admissions would be done only based on the Class 12 marks. The government should make the Centre understand the fairness of its demand and ensure implementation of the same,” Stalin said.

Remarking that the status of the resolution adopted in the state Cabinet in this July to provide 7.5 per cent quota for govt school students within the existing reservation in medical admission remains a mystery, Stalin recalled the most recent statement of Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and wondered why did the government not initiate follow up action on the Cabinet resolutions for over a month.

The whole state was curious to know if the AIADMK regime would fight for its rights or allow the 7.5 per cent govt school students quota to be put on cold storage by the Raj Bhavan, the DMK president said. He also asked the CM to clarify the status of the two unanimous resolutions passed by the Assembly for exempting TN from NEET.
