The capital city continued to record the highest number of cases in Tamil Nadu – 1,285 cases – and now has 1,33,173 confirmed cases since the outbreak. The numbers are high in its neighbourhood as well - Chengalpattu recorded 306 cases, Tiruvallur 284 and Kancheepuram 241.

That is, the cumulative tally of these four districts was 2,116 out of the total 6,352 cases on Saturday – or 33.3 per cent of cases in Tamil Nadu.

While the cases reported a minor surge to cross the 6,000-mark after a gap, there was a minor relief in the form of dip in fatalities. On Saturday, 87 deaths were notified, which included 59 from government hospitals and remaining 28 happened at private facilities. Among them, 82 had underlying health conditions.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu tested 80,988 samples on Saturday – the highest single-day figure so far.
