Fire guts ambulance waiting to carry COVID patient from Tenkasi GH

An ambulance parked near COVID-19 ward at Tenkasi Government Hospital, which that was kept ready to shift a COVID patient to Tirunelveli Government Medical College Hospital, went up in flames in the early hours of Sunday.

However, none were injured. While sources said the fire was caused by explosion of an oxygen cylinder kept inside the vehicle, Tenkasi Station Fire Officer U Ramesh denied it. When asked, he said that the accident occurred before the oxygen cylinder in the vehicle was replaced. Fortunately, no patient was inside the vehicle when the fire broke out. Though the shell of the vehicle was gutted in the fire, the personnel managed to extinguish it before it spread to the fuel tank, the SFO said.
