The victim has been identified as Vikirapandi, son on Elangovan.
However Andipatti police maintained that the boy ended his life after he was reprimanded by his father for beguiling time on Vaigai banks. The parents of the boy, studying class 11 at a school near Tiruchy, had settled down in a village between Karur and Tiruchy as both were working a stone quarry there.
Owing to Covid lockdown they lost their jobs and had returned to Karattupatti three days ago. Meanwhile, Vikirapandi along with his friends often spent his time on Vaigai banks. His father Elangovan reprimaned him. Upset over this, the boy hung himself using a saree in his house around 7 am. Police are investigating.

As the day for the NEET exam had neared, Harishma’s cousin in Karur had got her admit card on Aug 28 and asked Harishma Sri had downloaded her hall ticket. When Ganesan asked, Harishma Sri told him that she had forgotten the application number and the password.
Ganesan scolded Harishma Sri and on August 29, both Ganesan and Harishma Sri went to their school in Pattukkottai to seek their help in retrieving the application number but the teacher concerned was not present. A frustrated Harishma Sri reportedly consumed pesticide and fainted at the house the same day. She was rushed to the Pudukkottai GH where she died despite treatment on Tuesday.
