Death toll in central districts in TN crosses 500 mark
With 18 deaths recorded in the past two days, the COVID toll in central districts of the state increased to 525 on Friday, with a total of 34,658 cases, among which 5,437 are under treatment.

Though the number of cases slightly dipped in all eight districts like Ariyalur, Karur, Nagapattinam, Perambalur, Pudukkottai, Tiruvarur, the tally in Thanjavur shot up to 164 new cases while Tiruchy recorded 104 cases on Friday. However, the number of fatalities on Friday was seven with no deaths in recorded in Ariyalur, Perambalur, Thanjavur, and Tiruchy while Nagapattinam recorded three deaths each on both Thursday and Friday.
Though the toll in Tiruchy was 122, officials here said that no fresh fatalities were reported in the last three days. More than 100 police personnel from Tiruchy city had tested positive.
Despite Perambalur district graph showing very few cases, the district witnessed as many as 13 new infections and the tally here stands at 1,381, with 102 cases under treatment.
Meanwhile, Pudukkottai district, which had hardly any cases in the initial period, witnessed a surge from the second week of August and registered 6,452 cases against Tiruchy district which recorded 7,903 cases till Friday. However, the number of active cases (under treatment) remains 1,026 in Pudukkottai which is the highest among the other central districts.
