Former union minister A Raja has the leadership to become the party general secretary or at least the party treasurer, but as usual, the DMK has ditched a qualified person, the BJP leader said. The former DMK leader said that two people EV Velu and A Raja had toiled more for the party in terms of hard-work and had always been a spendthrift force for the party. “I was hoping at least a treasurer post for A Raja. Though TR Baalu is party treasurer former minister EV Velu will be forced to spend for party,” Duraisamy said.

In Chennai, there is a need for more reservation seats for Dalits. Dravidian parties’ market them as the campaigners of social justice but they do not nominate Dalits as district secretaries. For instance, the capital Chennai has never had a Dalit mayor or neither the DMK nor AIADMK promoted Dalit functionaries. “I have been in the DMK and have watched the functioning of AIADMK, both are against the Dalit empowerment,” Duraisamy said.
