Tension has been simmering in the state for the past few months over Hindi imposition and pitting Tamil pride against the imposition.
Amidst this heated exchange between parties, Hindi Diwas was celebrated and former Union Minister tweeted that people who speak Hindi are celebrating Hindi Diwas, and we rejoice it along with them but Tamil people can be legitimately proud that Tamil language is amongst the oldest languages of India.
He followed up citing Keezhadi excavation findings to aide his argument.
The Congress leader tweeted this message in three languages: Tamil, English and Hindi.
This tweet gains gravitas with the scaling up of various movements that espouse the antiquity of Tamil language and culture as a buffer against the purported Hindi imposition on non-Hindi speakers.
