Victim’s father moves HC against police brutality, seeks Rs 1 cr compensation
The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court on Wednesday issued notices to Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu, Director General of Police and Tenkasi Superintendent of Police in a plea seeking compensation for the victim of alleged brutality of Veerakeralampudur police.

A petition filed by Navaneethakrishnan, father of the victim, from Veerakeralampudur, came up for hearing before Justice R. Pongiappan. The petitioner claimed that his son Kumaersan, auto-rickshaw driver, vomited blood all of a sudden in June this year and was admitted to Tirunelveli Government Medical College Hospital in casualty.
During his treatment, Kumaresan said he was picked up by the Veerakeralampudur Sub Inspector of Police Chandrasekar citing investigation into an issue concerning dispute with another local person. Further, the petitioner stated that his son was brutally beaten by the Sub Inspector Chandrasekar and constable Kumarand he suffered serious internal injuries to kidney, lungs and private part of his body. Kumaresan died on June 28.
The petitioner demanded a case of murder against the police personnel responsible for his son’s death and compensation of Rs.1 crore from the police and Government job for any one of the victim’s family.
The Judge, after hearing, served notices to top level authorities of state government seeking their response and adjourned the case to October 9.
