The girl, a resident of Vadukanthangal near Katpadi, was a student of a private polytechnic at Iarayankadu about 12 kilometres from Vellore on the Chennai-Bengaluru national highway. As she complained of frequent vomiting, her parents took her to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in their area, where doctors after examining her said she was not sick but seven months pregnant.

As the girl did not have thali, the girl told doctors that her husband was out of station in another state due to the lockdown. The shocked parents immediately complained to the Katpadi police who forwarded the complaint the Latheri police, who in turn passed it on to the Pallikonda police as the private polytechnic was within their limits.

When Social Welfare Department officials who were called in to counsel the girl, she admitted that in March she received a call on her father’s mobile from a polytechnic staff asking her to bring her records to the institute. When she was nearing the polytechnic, she realised somebody was following her. The stalker sprayed something on her and she swooned. When she came to senses, she found she was in a room with a man who told her not to reveal anything.

The case is likely to be shifted to Vellore All Women Police as Pallikonda does not have this facility. Enquiries are on to find if the girl was telling the truth.
