Tiruchy DIG launches ‘Project Shield’ to protect vulnerable women, children

Due to rising number of offences against women and children in rural parts of Pudukkottai, Ariyalur and Tiruchy districts, the police have identified 30 hot spots and are committed to ensure safety, said DIG Z Annie Vijaya said here on Monday.

After launching ‘Project Shield’ to ‘Create Safe and Violence Free Communities for Women and Children’ in collaboration with International Justice Mission (IJM) by the IG (Central Zone) HM Jayaram, the DIG (Tiruchy Range) Annie Vijaya said the project intended to develop a systematic and evidence-based policing. “This will boost the performance of the police department in combating crimes against women and children in Tiruchy Range, said the DIG. She added that the Project Shield will focus on the vulnerable districts and the IJM would co-ordinate for data analysis. The plan is to, initially, gather data on crimes against women and children.
