However, though the merit list would make clear their admission position, scores of students who did not opt for deemed universities are still confused as the Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE) has not announced the counselling dates till now.
According to a senior official from DoTE, which is conducting engineering admissions, the delay in publishing merit list would have a cascading effect on the admission process, and could delay its completion by another month. He added that the tentative counselling dates would be announced in the next couple of days.
As per the tentative schedule released by the directorate, the rank list was to be published on September 7 and counselling to begin from September 17. However, the publication of merit list was postponed twice – first to September 17 and then to September 25.
Though 1,60,834 candidates had enrolled for admissions online, only 1,14,206 uploaded their documents.
For the first time, all original certificates were verified online this year due to COVID-19 pandemic situation so as to avoid students visiting in person.
“This year there would be more than five rounds of counselling as online enrollment was high compared to previous year,” the official added. This year, around 1.50 lakh engineering seats are available at more than 500 engineering colleges in State.
