Rajini to commence Annaatthe shooting, but remains silent on party launch plans
The ruling AIADMK and the principal opposition DMK have started the groundwork for the next year’s Assembly elections but actor Rajinikanth, who declared his intention to contest the state polls, will be busy shooting for his upcoming movie Annaatthe in Hyderabad next month without revealing his plans for the party launch.

Sources said that Rajinikanth would be travelling to Hyderabad to join the shooting of Annaatthe directed by Siruthai Siva and produced by Sun Pictures. With barely six months left for the Assembly polls, few office bearers of the Rajini Makkal Mandram (RMM) expressed disappointment over no announcement made on the party launch while some are hopeful of the launch happening in November.
One of the district secretaries of the RMM in Northern districts said that there was no communication on the party launch yet. “We have only six months for the election but we have no clue on the party launch,” he said, adding that due to COVID-19, it would be very difficult to reach all sections of people if party launch was delayed further. AVK Raja, district secretary of RMM Chennai Central said that the actor will announce party launch soon.
“There is no delay in the party launch. We have appointed office bearers in all levels for the RMM across the state. Considering the superstar’s popularity across the state, six months in the run-up to the assembly polls would be more than enough for us to campaign and bring about a political change,” he said. Another office-bearer said that he was expecting the launch of the party in November. After announcing his political plunge on December 31, 2017, Rajinikanth reiterated his desire to contest the state Assembly polls in the run-up to the last year’s Lok Sabha polls.
However, he announced that he has no desire to become Chief Minister and he would rather appoint a young capable person as the state’s head.
