Chennai

Madras High Court has categorically ruled that students with arrears should clear it only through exams and not otherwise.

Favouring the AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education), the HC told that the government's decision of exam-less promotion is clearly a violation of the technical education body's guidelines.

Former Anna University Vice Chancellor E. Balagurusamy's hearing has been adjourned to November 20. That date is the deadline for both Tamil Nadu government and University Grants Commission (UGC) to answer.

E. Balagurusamy was strictly against promotion without exams.

Taking cognizance of the prevailing pandemic situation the government on August didn't see fit for conducting arrear exams for students (except final year) and consider those who've paid the exam fee as promoted.

Anna University was censured by AICTE warning rollback of recognition.
