According to a transport department official, special buses would be operated as the number of passengers has been increasing after the resumption of bus services in the State. “Apart from the 300 special buses, transport Corporations would operate additional buses based on the need. Also, passengers who want to travel more than 300 km can book their tickets on www.tnstc.in,” the official said.
The official pointed out that the fear of infection has caused the public to avoid the buses initially. However, the number of passengers has been increasing lately. Earlier, the transport Corporations operated around 500 buses from Chennai per day. “Now, we are operating more than 1,000 buses. Bus operations resumed in the State from September 7,” the official added.
On the other hand, passengers complain that the crews fail to follow the standard operating protocols in the city.
“On Tuesday night, I boarded a government bus from Harur to reach Chennai. There was no hand sanitizer inside the bus. Though the driver wore a mask, the conductor did not wear it properly,” C Murugan, a passenger said.
