State records 5,242 new cases, recoveries nearing 6 lakh mark
Tamil Nadu recorded a total of 5,242 cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, including eight imported cases from other states. The total number of COVID-19 cases in the State now stands at 6,51,370.

As many as 1,272 cases of COVID-19 were reported in Chennai, taking the total number of active cases in the city to 13,577. Thus, the total number of cases in Chennai stands at 1,80,751. Coimbatore recorded 392 cases, while 339 cases were reported in Salem. Among other districts, 309 cases were reported in Chengalpattu and 199 cases in Tiruvallur.
A total of 67 more deaths were reported due to COVID-19 in the State, including 31 deaths in private hospitals and 36 in government hospitals. The total number of deaths due to COVID-19 in the State has reached to 10,187. Of the deaths reported on Saturday, as many as 65 deceased had several underlying comorbid conditions.
The total number of recoveries in the State are nearing six lakh as 5,222 more people were discharged from several hospitals. So far, as many as 5,97,033 people have recovered in the State.
With one more private laboratory, Genelife Molecular Laboratory in Krishnagiri, being approved for COVID-19 testing by the State Health department, the total number of testing facilities in Tamil Nadu has reached 191.
