Nilgris Rains: 'Precautionary measures are in place', assures District Collector

Heavy rains have been thrashing the Nilrgris district for the past 5 days. The District Collector has assured that all necessary steps have been taken for public safety.

The Nilgris district headquarters Ooty and other smaller towns surrounding it like Dhodabetta, Gudalur, Naduvattam, Kodanadu, Kothagiri and Coonur has been receiving quite a heavy rainfall for the past few days.

Apparently, the check-dams are filling up fast. With monsoon rains still thrashing the district, the risk of sudden landslides is threatening the commuters.

Addressing this issue, the District Collector, Ms.Innocent Divya said all precautionary measures are in place and the district administration has identified nearly 456 high-risk zones and safety measures like shifting the residents to temporary shelters are undertaken. Poclain machines are also kept on high alert, in case of any evacuation needed in the mountain trails, Divya said.
