A resident of Chokkan Kudiyiruppu, Kommadikottai village, Sathankulam taluk in Thoothukudi district, Selvan, who marketed packaged drinking water, was abducted by the gang at the behest of his foe Thirumanavel, the then AIADMK functionary, of Usarathukudiyiruppu on September 17. Much to the shock of his family he was found beaten to death near Thisayanvilai in Tirunelveli district.

A case against seven persons, including Inspector Harikrishnan, who’s said to have instigated the crime had been filed in this connection after protest by Selvan’s relatives. Deputy Inspector General of Police, Tirunelveli Range, Praveen Kumar Abinapu then issued orders placing Inspector Harikrishnan under suspension. During the course of action, Director General of Police JK Tripathy transferred the case to Crime Branch CID.

Meanwhile, Jeevitha, wife of the slain trader Selvan, doubting the intent of the police, said all the accused except the suspended Inspector were arrested and added that the investigating team should not hesitate to arrest Harikrishnan. Even after a month’s time, the suspended Inspector, who’s facing criminal charges, remains scot free, she added.

Moreover, she also questioned the delay in providing a government job to the next of his kin and solar power house promised by the district administration.
