It may be recalled that these columns had repeatedly highlighted how those close to the Minister had donated land to the local body and then proceeded to construct a bus stand on the site in Sathgar village panchayat some distance from Pernambut Municipality.
Veeramani inaugurated the facility and stated that the bus stand was constructed for the people on donated land not alluding to the fact that it was built by his men flouting the TN District Municipal Act, 1920, TN Combined Development and Building Rules, 2019 and the TN Town and Country Planning Act, 1971. He then flagged off some government buses from the location.
Officials, including Shanmuga Sundram and the Vellore RDMA C Vijayakumar knew that rules were flouted, sources said.
Both Congress and DMK workers led by G Suresh Kumar and DMK Pernambut town secretary Zubair Ahamed staged demonstrations against the inauguration on Friday.
