Low-key Sadhaya Vizha held at Thanjavur temple
The grand annual festival of Sadhaya Vizha at the Big Temple was a low-key event this season on account of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 1,035th Sadhaya Vizha for the King Raja Raja Cholan commenced with the traditional music at around 6 am following which the odhuvars performed special pujas for the Thevaram, Thirumurai scriptures and took them to the inner prakaram by a procession. They also recited the parayam in the Nandi mandapam. Subsequently, the State honours were accorded to the statue of the King Raja Raja Cholan and District Collector, M Govinda Roa, garlanded the statue of the king. Hereditary trustee of the temple Bapuji Babaji Raja Bhonsle, Dharmapuram Mutt adheenam Kattalai Chockkalinga Thambiran and others garlanded the statue of the king too.
Special pujas were performed on idols recovered from Gujarat. Grand abhishekam to the idols of Peruvudayar and Periya Nayaki using turmeric, sandalwood paste, milk, curd and herbs was performed. At night, specially decorated idols of Raja Raja Cholan and Ulagamadevi were taken by a procession inside sanctum sanctorum. Devotees were given sanitiser after thermal scanning. They were allowed through barricades with proper social distancing and no one was allowed in the sanctum sanctorum.
