Take strict action against online gaming: HC to govt

A PIL filed by I Mohammed Razvi of Madurai, came up for hearing before a division bench of N Kirubakaran and B Pugalendhi. The petitioner claimed that post lockdown, many parents were worried about their children’s disturbed sleep pattern, refusal to eat, thanks to them being hooked to online games. They have also started revolting when confronted by the parents. Gaming disorder could be better treated in the early stages and it’s important to monitor children, the bench said. Hence the petitioner sought the bench to grant interim direction directing respondents to take action against online gaming groups, websites and social network. Besides, Muthukumar, an advocate from Madurai in a petition sought to impose a ban on online rummy.

The government counsel stated that and Tamil Nadu is contemplating a similar ban here. The bench said celebrities have been promoting the online game concept through ads and sought explanations from the Central and state governments and issued notices to Virat Kohli, Sourav Ganguly, Prakash Raj, Tamannaah Bhatia, Rana Daggubati and Sudeep.
