Tiruchy ryots flay new legislations claiming it will hit traditional farmers

Farmers associations staged a protest in Thanjavur demanding to withdraw the farm bills claiming that it would affect traditional farmers. The farmers who assembled at the Thanjavur Head Post office raised slogans in support of their demands.

They said that the Centre had brought out a series of acts against the farmers which would affect agriculture during the COVID-19 lockdown period. They said that the recent farm bills would pave way for hoarding the commodities by the traders and this would result in price rise that would affect common man. They charged that the farm bills only support the corporates and the traditional farmers would be controlled by them. They also feared that the farmers would lose their land and even lead them to quit farming once the new laws have been implemented. So, they demanded the Centre to withdraw the farm bills and urged the state government to pass a resolution in line with the state of Punjab against the bill.
